The candidates will during the period of training learn how to isolate, culture the pathogen, validate the pathogen and determine the aggressiveness. Students will learn how to design valid laboratory and field experiments for screening for blackpod using pod screening, leaf screening and canker screening. Students will learn aseptic techniques, methods of inoculum preparation, inoculation, creating the ideal conditions to establish infections, data collection and analysis. With regard to witches’ broom screening the candidates will learn how to culture the brooms to generate mushrooms, method of harvesting the basidiospores and storage; preparing the inoculum, generating test plants, determining the ideal time and stage to inoculate, post-inoculation incubation and methods of data collection, analysis and reporting.
